The time had come to announce the new sponsor and the fans of the Montreal Canadians were very excited, the plans the rich new owners had for the team would surely attract some of the biggest brands in the world. After all, they did own some of the biggest soccer teams in Europe, where a major brewer had paid over $5 million to become principal sponsor. Anticipation grew to intense levels amongst the faithful followers, names such as Sony, Coca Cola, Apple and Mercedes had all been rumoured.
However, the owners were shrewd businessmen, behind the scenes they had been negotiating with the GODdess Valentine DeVille and after weeks of painstaking talks and numerous raised offers, the deal had finally been done.
But this was no ordinary sponsorship deal, unlike any other in the world, rather than the sponsor paying the club, in this case the club had agreed to pay $10 million per annum to use the name and face of Her Perfect Self on their merchandise.
When the deal was announced, the news was received by much shock and confusion, the world press latched onto it and media from all corners of the world began writing and reporting on this unique business arrangement. However, it didn’t take long before the masses realised just how innovative this deal actually was. Almost instantly, sales of club merchandise rocketed. Stockists were unindated with shoppers, frenzy and chaos ensued as fanatics fought over remaining supplies.
Sports fans, fahionistas and devoted followers, the world over began lapping up any item the club could offer; shirts, books, mousemats, plates, pictures, bedding, ornaments, anything that could be sold was and they rejoiced in the opportunity to own their own GODdess. Obviously, all merchandise had to be approved by the GODdess before it could be released. In a matter of days, sales had exceeded $100 millions! Of course, the GODdess had negotiated a 50% share of all revenue earned, on top of the initial fee and creative ownership.
A spokesman for the club commented that they were delighted with the way sales had taken off and as a result had guaranteed the club a future of success and prosperity. The pleasure the fans were getting from wearing and owning images of the GODdess was priceless and they thanked the sponsor for allowing them to spread such happiness accross the world.
The GODdess was reported to say that the additional revenue She will be earning would come in useful to cover some of Her sundry expenses.
