This was the fourth time that a picture like this had appeared on the side of a building (always in a somewhat out of the way location) in a large city. Each time, it was in a new city, and each time the effect was the same. One person would notice the picture, and become enthralled with the beauty of Her image. Soon others would congregate, and as word spread, the crowd would grow larger and larger, until the picture had attracted so many people that authorities would have to be called to intervene for the sake of public safety. And then, at some point,
the picture would have to be taken down.
These "events" were themselves the artist's form of art. His goal was, after placing each picture in its location, to record the way in which the crowd would grow, and to record the comments and reactions of those who joined the throng. He liked to focus in particular on the facial expressions of absolute awe that the image consistently inspired, and on the way in which many who looked at the picture seemed to go into an almost trance-like state - as if their minds were simply overwhelmed by the beauty of what they were looking at. He had recorded people whose emotional response to Her beauty was so intense that they seemed on the verge of tears, and he had recorded some who fell to their knees in a posture of abject worship.
He would also record, as an important part of his project, the reactions of the police when they came upon the scene. Their job may have been to protect the public by requiring that the image be taken down, but those police who arrived first on the scene typically joined the crowd rather than trying to disperse it, as they too would become enraptured by Her incomparable beauty. In the city in which he had staged his most recent event, it was not until the fourth set of policemen were dispatched to the scene that any attempt was made
to actually "police" the situation.
Of course, the artist himself was no less entranced by Her beauty than were others, and in one corner of his large studio loft, visitors could see a shrine that he had created in dedication to Her Perfect Self - the place where he began each day worshiping Her image himself, while offering prayerful words of deep gratitude for the beauty that She had given him permission to share in this one way with the rest of the world.
